Curry Takes the Helm at UFA

A former top administrator for the Petersburg Vessel Owners Association, Julianne Curry, is the new executive director of United Fishermen of Alaska, succeeding Mark Vinsel, who has transitioned back to an administrative role.

UFA announced on Dec. 31 that Curry had been selected during the UFA fall meeting in Anchorage. Curry is a longline fisheries harvester who has worked for UFA member group Petersburg Vessel Owners Association for six years.

She has served on the UFA executive committee as UFA subsistence chair for five years. Most recently she was UFA’s public relations/membership chair.

She will be based in Juneau during the legislative session.

UFA also announced that Arni Thomson has stepped down after nearly three years as president of UFA.

UFA Vice President Bruce Wallace was named to serve as interim president until the full board selects a successor at their February meeting.

“UFA is a solid organization with representation throughout the fishing industry and I am eager to see what we can accomplish in 2013,” said Wallace, who predicted a smooth transition.
